Every hermit crab has their own personality, their own quirks, their own way of moving through the world. These four little creatures are the reason VivaShell exists — they taught me that caring for hermit crabs is equal parts science, patience, and falling completely in love.
Hummus

Hummus is the chill one — always found lounging near the food dish or slowly making her way across the crabitat with zero urgency. She has a calm, unbothered energy that makes her the perfect crab to watch when you need to relax. Despite her laid-back nature, she is surprisingly picky about her shells and will spend ages inspecting a new one before deciding it is not quite right.

Chia is tiny but mighty — the most energetic crab in the colony. She is constantly on the move, climbing everything she can reach and exploring every corner of the tank. At night she is the first one out, racing across the substrate like she has somewhere important to be. Her curiosity is endless and she is always the first to investigate anything new added to the crabitat.

Salmona is the social butterfly of the group — she loves being near the other crabs and is often found in little huddles with her besties. She has a beautiful pinkish-salmon tint to her body that makes her easy to spot. Salmona is gentle and easygoing, rarely getting into shell disputes, preferring to keep the peace in the colony.

Salmonela got her name as a joke — she is Salmona's best friend and the two are always together. She is a bit bolder than Salmona though, often leading the pair on nighttime adventures around the tank. She has a slightly darker coloring and a cheeky personality that keeps things interesting in the colony.

Bisquit is the big, gentle giant of the colony. He is the largest crab and moves with a slow confidence that commands respect. The other crabs tend to give him space, not because he is aggressive — he is actually the calmest of them all — but because he takes up a lot of real estate. Bisquit loves to dig elaborate burrows and has been known to completely rearrange the substrate overnight.

Bluberry is the mysterious one — quiet, observant, and always watching from the shadows. She has a unique bluish-purple tint to her legs that inspired her name. Bluberry is most active in the late evening hours and prefers to explore when the other crabs are settling down. She has a special bond with the freshwater pool and can often be found partially submerged, just vibing.

Cherry is the sweetheart of the colony — small, adorable, and always doing something cute. She has a warm reddish-brown coloring and the tiniest claws that she waves around when she gets excited about food. Cherry is friendly with everyone and never gets into shell disputes. She is often found nestled close to the larger crabs, seemingly enjoying their company and warmth.

Do not let the name fool you — Aggressive Crab earned it during his first week when he pinched Vivienne's finger and refused to let go. Since then, he has mellowed out considerably, but the name stuck because it is too funny to change. He is actually quite confident and bold, always the first to investigate new food and new shells. He has a strong personality and is not afraid to assert himself during shell negotiations.
